Period Poverty: Your donations doubled on #GivingTuesday

Period Poverty: Your donations doubled on #GivingTuesday

by Althaea Sandover

Period poverty affects more than 12% of women and girls around the world, according to UN Women. The percentage of people who are negatively impacted by social stigma and gender dysphoria while on their period is far greater.

This festive season, you can help to reduce period poverty and menstrual stigma in the UK and beyond by donating to Freedom4Girls.

Freedom4Girls is a Leeds-based charity tackling period poverty through campaigns, product donations, and workshops. On top of that, the charity works in East Africa to provide reusable period products and to educate young people on the subject of menstruation. In 2021, volunteers delivered more than 21,000 packs of period products to people experiencing poverty in Leeds alone.

This year, Freedom4Girls will participate in the UK’s largest match funding campaign: The Big Give Christmas Challenge. To date, The Big Give has used matched funding to raise over £156m for hundreds of important causes. The Christmas Challenge starts on Giving Tuesday (30th November) and will double all donations until 12pm on 7th December.

That means that, from 12pm on Giving Tuesday, your donations to Freedom4Girls will have twice the impact - at no extra cost to you! By donating, you’ll help to improve the lives of women and girls by reducing shame and providing access to their choice of much-needed products.

Here’s how you can get involved:

  1. Post about Freedom4Girls on social media from 30th November - 7th December using the hashtags #GivingTuesday and #ChristmasChallenge21

  2. Visit the Freedom4Girls campaign page on The Big Give to make a donation (Remember: your donations will only be matched if made between 12pm on 30th November - 12pm on 7th December)

Follow Freedom4Girls on Twitter and Instagram.
